- 2. Game Description
-
- The Ultimate Baseball Challenge is a baseball trivia
- game that follows the same rules as baseball. A
- correct answer provided to a question is considered
- a hit and a runner is placed on the appropriate base
- (according to how difficult the question was). An
- incorrect answer is considered an out. There are
- three outs per inning, nine innings per game, etc.
- Runs are scored when enough correct answers are given
- to drive in a runner. Runners do not have to be
- forced to the next base. For example, a runner at
- second will score if a single is hit. The games ends
- for a one player game at the end of nine innings.
- Two player games end by following the same rules as
- baseball (games can go into extra innings).
-
- The following is a description of the menus and how
- to play the game:
-
- To start a one player game:
- File->Start New Game->One Player
-
- To start a two player game:
- File->Start New Game->Two Player
-
- To list the top five high scores:
- File->High Scores
-
- To exit the game:
- File->Exit
-
- Bring up this help file:
- Help->Help

- to register this game (shareware version only):
- Help->How to Register
-
- Bring up a window that can be used to type in the
- registration code to register that game (shareware
- version only):

- Challenge:

-
- How to play:
- To play the game, select the number of players and
- enter in each player's name. Player one (the away
- team) goes first. A question and four possible
- answers are displayed on the screen. Pick your
- answer by selecting the radio button next to the
- answer and click the swing button (or you can double
- click on the radio button). If the answer was wrong
- you are given an out. If the answer was right a
- baseball is placed on a base depending on the
- difficulty of the question and base runners are
- advanced accordingly. After every answer is
- attempted, the correct answer is given. To bring up
- the next question, click the "Next Batter" button.
- At the end of an inning for a two player game the
- opposing team is sent up to bat. The bottom of the
- screen shows an inning by inning account of the
- game, the games statistics, and the current inning
- and number of outs. For two player games the team
- that is up to bat is highlighted. (Note: Errors have
- no purpose in the game. They are accumulated
- when the "Swing" button is pressed when no answer
- was chosen.)
-
- The scoreboard is displayed at the end of the game
- if any player had a high score (based on runs per
- inning).
-
-
-
- 3. Registering
-
- The Ultimate Baseball Challenge is distributed as
- shareware. The shareware version has two differences
- than the registered version:
- 1) It contains only 200 questions.
- 2) It repeats questions.
-
- After registering the game you get 1500 questions
- which will not be repeated until all questions
- have been used up.
-
- To register the game go to the "How to Register" option
- under the help file and print out the form (or just
- print out the file ballreg.txt). Then fill out the
- form and mail it in. After receiving the form, a
- code will be mailed to you which can be used to
- register the game. To register using this code select
- the "Register" button from the initial startup screen
- or "Register" from the Help menu in the game. After
- typing in the registration code and pressing "Register",
- the game must be restarted. The next time the game is
- started it will be the full registered version.

- 4. Miscellaneous
-
- This game's questions were written from the summer of
- 1996 to early 1997 and were written using the last
- full season's data... which was 1995. The questions
- were written so that they would not become out of
- date. For example, a question about most lifetime
- doubles would be written:
-
- As of 1995, which player has the most career doubles?
-
- It would not be written as (because the answer could
- change):
-
- Which player has the most career doubles?
-
- The following is a list of some topics that are
- covered in the questions:
-
- League and Playoff MVP Winners
- Rookie of the Year Winners
- Cy Young Award Winners
- Baseball Quotes
- Golden Glove Winners
- Triple Crown Winners
- Manager of the Year Awards
